AD7400/AD7401, Isolated Sigma-Delta Modulator Evaluation Tools
(EVAL-AD7400EDZ & EVAL-AD7401EDZ) using EVAL-CED1Z
Introduction
The AD7400 is a second-order, Σ-Δ modulator that converts an analog input signal into a high speed, 1-bit data stream with on-chip digital isolation based on Analog Devices, Inc. iCoupler® technology. The AD7400 operates from a 5 V power supply and accepts a differential input signal of ±200 mV (±320 mV full scale). The analog input is continuously sampled by the analog modulator, eliminating the need for external sample-and-hold circuitry. The input information is contained in the output stream as a density of ones with a data rate of 10 MHz. The original information can be reconstructed with an appropriate digital filter.
The evaluation tools for the AD7400/AD7401 incorporate:
- EVAL-AD7400EDZ
- EVAL-CED1Z Converter Evaluation and Development board
The Eval-AD7400/AD7401 board has enhanced functionality and operates in conjunction with EVAL-CED1Z. The evaluation board package includes a fully assembled and tested evaluation board, documentation, and software for controlling the board from the PC via the EVAL-CED1Z. The software also includes a sinc3 filter implemented on an FPGA. Software for controlling the AD7400/AD7401 is provided in conjunction with the EVAL-CED1Z. This software enables the user to perform detailed analysis of the ADC’s performance. This analysis includes, AC (FFT) and DC (linearity, waveform and histogram plots) analysis. The software was developed with Labview and both the source code and the executable are available. Interfacing to the Eval-AD7400/AD7401 is through a standard 2-row 34-pin SPORT connector. This SPORT connector is compatible with the EVAL-CED1Z. See below for the relevant documentation for the system including technical notes and software downloads.
Eval-AD7400/AD7401 also incorporates standalone capability which can be selected by setting the appropriate link options.
