Charge Pump circuits are used to generate higher voltages from low voltage inputs, using capacitors as storage elements. Thus a 5 V input can be used to generate a 10 V or even 15 V output. The provision of these higher voltages is critical in many low voltage applications such as notebook PCs, mobile phone cables and mobile phone display panels. ADI provides many innovative charge pump solutions, such as fully compliant RS-232 devices in 3 V applications (using our voltage tripler architecture), Green Idle Mode to improve power efficiency in battery powered applications, and high current output charge pumps for backlight displays in mobile phones.
